In this podcast episode I discuss listing high jackers...
Yes they suck and just about every Amazon seller I know will have to deal with them at one time or another.
More often then not you can get them off your listing fairly easily without issue. However a small percentage of them take some extra effort.
WHAT IS LISTING HIGH JACKING?
It's essentially when someone else uses your listing you created to sell a similar or counterfeit product. (Yes Amazon allows others to jump on your listing and sell from it)
HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS IS HAPPENING?
You will see on your listing under the pricing information or off to the right of the page that it says "Also Sold By" or "Other Sellers" It will usually be shown in red and then list the sellers next to it.
WHAT IS THE BUY BOX?
If you are the only seller of the item on your listing then by default you own the "Buy Box." If you have other sellers on your listing then by default you will still get the sale unless the customer clicks on another seller to buy from them. It can occur where you get bumped from the "Buy Box" on your own listing and someone else take control of it. In order for you to make a sale they would have to click on you as the seller and buy from you.
HOW TO DETER HIGH JACKERS?
- Make sure you are private labeling your products and putting your logos on the product and packaging if you can. Then make sure your logo clearly shown on your product in your listing images.
- Make sure you are checking your listings daily to monitor.
- Register your brand with Amazon Brand Registry. (This will require a website.)(Wordpress, Shopify)
HOW DO YOU GET RID OF THEM?
- Start by sending them a nice message that is polite but kindly tells them to stop selling on your listing. Wait 24 hours for them to respond.
- Send them a slightly stronger worded message if they fail to comply after 24 hours.
- Send them a cease and desist letter.
- Buy the product from their listing and wait until it arrives. Document it and take pictures of what they actually sent you.
- File a complaint with Amazon directly and let them deal with it. (Click Here To Do That)
- Seek legal advice from a lawyer if desired.
FIRST MESSAGE TO HIGH JACKER:
Hey,
I just wanted to kindly inform you that we noticed you are selling on our listing we created. While we are certain you did this by mistake we just wanted to reach out and ask nicely that you please remove yourself from our listing. Here is the ASIN that we are referring to in this matter (XXXXXXXX)

SERIOUS TONED MESSAGE TO HIGH JACKER:
Hello (insert seller name here),
We have noticed that you are still continuing to sell our product on our listing. This is our brand that we created and we have never authorized any other sellers to sell.
If you are attempting to use our listing while selling a similar or counterfeit brand then that is something that we take very seriously. We also know that Amazon takes that very seriously and we are already in communication with them about this incident.
If you do not remove your product from our listing immediately then we will send Amazon a formal Cease And Desist letter. If you remove your product from our listing we will kindly inform Amazon not to pursue this matter any further at this point.
We appreciate your swift action and attention to this matter.
