In this episode I tell you why you should break all the rules and think outside the box when trying to find a product to sell on Amazon.

Looking to find a product to sell on Amazon right now?

Yes it can be downright brutal to find the perfect product that meets all of your criteria.

Some people spend weeks or even months in the product research phase and then fail to take action and make a decision.

One of the main problems is that most Amazon sellers are all following the same general criteria in the product research phase and looking in the same exact product categories as everyone else.

In this podcast episode I talk about thinking a little outside the box to find a product to sell on Amazon.

A lot of the hidden gems are discovered when you break some of the rules and are willing to take some risks.

Here is a basic criteria of what your product should be like:

  • Small and lightweight - fits in a shoebox and 1-2 pounds max
  • Simple and not complex
  • Sells for $20 or less on Amazon
  • Makes you $10 of profit per unit sold

Now I am here to explain that it's ok to break some of these general rules.

Consider the following ideas:

  • Larger or slightly oversized items
  • More expensive items that are $30 and above
  • Slightly more complex items
  • Unique or odd items
  • Avoid the popular and "sexy" items and categories
  • Item makes you $5-$10 profit

As long as your bottom line numbers work out then you should be willing to open your mind up in the product research phase.

After playing on Jungle Scout for about 30 minutes I quickly discovered some potential opportunities in the follow categories:

  • Arts, Crafts, sewing
  • Baby
  • Bathroom Accessories
  • Office Supplies
  • Items Made of Bamboo
  • Unique Travel Adapters

Also if you are looking to find a product to sell on Amazon without using any tools then you are essentially just wasting a lot of time. Using a tool like Jungle Scout allows me to quickly uncover cool things to sell within the matter of minutes.

There are certainly unique opportunities all around you so start to think about those odd or unique items. They may not be "sexy" but I am sure you wouldn't mind if they were making you an extra $2000 a month passive income.

So in conclusion... Think weird, break some rules and don't be afraid to go against the grain when in the product research phase.

Alibaba – This is one of the main sites I use for sourcing products to sell on Amazon. It’s a portal to get connected with suppliers and the site is improving all the time.

Global Sources – Similar to Alibaba this portal is a very high quality site to find products to source. It isn’t as well know as Alibaba but certainly should be part of your tool belt when looking for new products.
